Tomorrow is the BIG day! Huntsville, here we come! Get that homework done and go to bed early, it's going to be an early morning. Please have your parents drop you off in the car rider lane between 6:15 and 6:30 and go directly to the cafeteria. Oh, don't forget to wear your new 5th grade t-shirt :)

Welcome Back!

Hopefully everyone had a relaxing Winter Break...although, it didn't feel much like winter! This week is a big one as our 5th grade field trip to Huntsville Alabama is on Thursday, March 1! Be on the lookout for a bright goldenrod colored letter outlining all you need to know about the trip...including what time to have your children dropped off at school, what to bring and when to be at school for pick up on Thursday evening. 

Friday, March 2 is our school celebration of Read Across America! Students are allowed to wear their pajamas and read their favorite book that day.

We still have progress reports and Thursday folders that haven't been returned to school yet. Reminder to look for these items and bring them back to class. You know who you are :)

Tonight's reading homework is a little different than previously assigned. Your child should have a passage about World War I. After they read the passage they are to turn the paper over and answer questions 1 and 2 in the section entitled "Fill It". The idea is that this will serve as an additional boost in their study for the test over World War I this Friday.

Math homework is from the My Math book and can be found on pp. 763-764 questions 1-5. Today we focused on representing division of decimals and whole numbers by using models, so I am checking to see if they understand how to model correctly.

Our Social Studies test over World War I is set for Friday, February 16.

We will exchange Valentines on Wednesday, but I do ask that if children plan on bringing Valentines to share then they need to be sure that ALL their classmates receive one. A class list went home today so that students can make sure they have included everyone.

Finally, if any of our class authors would like to submit a piece of writing to possibly be selected for the Author's Tea, please have that ready to turn in to me on Wednesday as well.

CORRECTION!

The Social Studies test over WWI will be on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 16, not Monday, February 12. Sorry for the mix up.

Remember to turn in your final payment for the Huntsville Space Camp trip by February 12!

Anyone who wants to try out for the Author's Tea, please have your submission ready by Wednesday, February 14. Remember, it can be any topic you wish. Just be sure your paper is in final form...proofread. 

On Wednesday, February 14 students are welcomed to bring Valentines to exchange with each other, but we will not be having a party. If students bring in Valentines, be sure there is one for every student in the class. I will send home a class list with students on Monday, February 12.

Math-Review worksheet of word problems

Students will be tested on their knowledge of WW I on Monday, February 12. They should be bringing home their Social Studies notebooks each night to study. We have had study/review time in class as well, but they should also be preparing at home.

February 12 is the deadline for final payment for the Huntsville Space Camp trip in March. We will have a 4-H lesson this Thursday. Bryce and Jacaden will be making presentations during this lesson!
