Thank you so much to all our absolutely wonderful and supportive parents for meeting with us during Conference Week! We feel so fortunate to have parents who are so involved in their children's education. We enjoyed getting to talk to each and every one of you and we're so happy to be able to teach your children this year.
Early in the week Madison received a Literary Award presented by Mrs. Veal. This award was for her writing during last year's Canned Food Drive sponsored by the Atlanta Braves. We're so proud of her! Two of our own students won Specialists Awards for their exemplary behavior during Specials classes during the first quarter. Andrew and Nieira were among those whose names were pulled from a larger pool of 5th graders. These children were all students who know how to behave like All Stars and we are truly proud of all of them.
On Friday the students had a chance to present their STEM projects. They created models of constructive and destructive processes and developed informational presentations. The models included demonstrations of earthquakes and volcanoes. Next week they will get started on a new STEM project on chemical and physical changes.
Looking ahead, on Tuesday, October 24 we will have an ice cream party to reward the students' efforts to follow classroom and hallway rules as well. Some parents have been asked to send in some supplies. Thank you so much for your willingness to help! The next time the children earn a reward I hope to ask some different parents to send in donations. It looks like the children want to work towards earning a doughnut party next time! If your child enjoys solving math problems and likes a good challenge, they might be interested in joining Acworth Elementary's Math Team. Try-outs will be held after school on Thursday, October 26. On Wednesday, October 25 posters are due for the poster contest for Red Ribbon Week. On Thursday students are asked to wear red, on Friday they may wear neon colors and sunglasses. Prizes will be handed out each day too.
We hope you all have a wonderful fall weekend,
Mrs. Southall and Mrs. Miller
