Thank you to all our parents for such a wonderful conference week. We so enjoyed getting to talk with you about your children. There was some great conversation about learning, strengths, weaknesses and goal-setting. We are really looking forward to continuing to watch the children grow during 2nd quarter.

Next week is Red Ribbon Week. The children were reminded to wear red on Monday. See attached for the rest of the week.  Download Red Ribbon Week Flyer_ACW

Don't forget that on Friday, October 26 we will have our 2nd Annual Character Day Parade. Students are encouraged to be creative and come to school dressed as a book character. After school the PTA is sponsoring a school dance!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the fall weather.

IOWA Assessment make ups are wrapping up today. Graded papers should be coming home this evening for parent signature. Students who are working in READ 180 and Systems 44 should be reading at home for at least 20 minutes and then writing a summary. I expect that every time students are writing a response they have the entry dated and that they are writing in complete, 5th grade quality sentences.
Students who work with Units of Study should be reading the assigned pages from their Book Club book entitled Fearless. They should then write a response to be used in the book club meeting. This week we are focusing on lessons learned by the character and how those lessons point to themes in the book.

The kids all had a great time today at Field Day. Yes, it was hot, but thankfully we had a breeze the whole time. We continue with week with many things planned. Tomorrow we will be having a yearbook signing session in the morning. We will also practice for graduation ceremonies during the day tomorrow. The students are also going to be finishing up end of quarter assessments. Please continue to encourage your students to attend school since we still have many important tasks and assignments to finish.
Don't forget that graduation and awards will take place on Wednesday at 8:00 and that student need to dress nicely. We will know by tomorrow afternoon whether the 5th grade picnic at Kennworth Park will be cancelled due to rain.

Finally, there will not be homework assigned this week. Enjoy!

Parents,
thank you, thank you, thank you for spoiling us this week during Teacher Appreciation Week. We are feeling so blessed to have such wonderful students and parents. We've said it from the first week of school back in August, it makes such a positive impact on our classroom when parents are supportive. Parents, we truly appreciate you!

Welcome Back!

Hopefully everyone had a relaxing Winter Break...although, it didn't feel much like winter! This week is a big one as our 5th grade field trip to Huntsville Alabama is on Thursday, March 1! Be on the lookout for a bright goldenrod colored letter outlining all you need to know about the trip...including what time to have your children dropped off at school, what to bring and when to be at school for pick up on Thursday evening.

Friday, March 2 is our school celebration of Read Across America! Students are allowed to wear their pajamas and read their favorite book that day.
