Hi Parents!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. This is what we are focusing on lately:
Math: We just started a new unit with money today. To make it a little more personal, each child has their own "Piggy Bank" at school in which they earn money. This goes hand in hand with our class dojo, but there are the different coin amounts. Along with have their own "Piggy Bank," we have a class "Piggy Bank." The students are working extra hard to earn money as a whole class and individually. At the end of the 2 weeks, the students will count their money and trade it in for a prize. I am really excited to see how this goes. They all seemed to love it today.
Reading: We are discussing how we can identify the beginning, middle, and end of a story. We talked about how the beginning of the story is when the character and setting is introduced, the middle is when the problem occurs, and the end is when there is a solution to the problem. We practiced this in a whole group setting, but the students will continue to practice it this week independently. When reading at home, have your child tell you the beginning, middle, and end of the story. This is great practice and helps with comprehension!
Writing: We are finishing up our personal narratives and starting new narratives. We are really focusing on how we can make a good bold beginning and an excellent ending. We are also working on capitalizing proper nouns in our writings.
Social Studies: We finished learning about our regions last week, so the first half of our week will be spent learning about the different rivers in Georgia. The second half of the week we will spend learning about the contributions that Sequoyah made to Georgia history.
We will be having our Wellness Run on September 23rd. This is a way to raise money for the specialist in our school and purchase supplies needed for art, math lab, science lab, etc. We ask that your child will try and raise donations for his. An information sheet along with an envelope and donation sheet went home in their Thursday folder last week. This does not need to be returned until the day of the Wellness Run, so the 23rd. We can't wait!
I hope you all have a wonderful week,
Sarah Potts
