I am so excited to be sharing this year with you! Third grade is an exciting, yet challenging time in a student's growth. I am looking forward to getting to know your child and help them learn and enjoy all they can in 3rd grade.
Here is a quick peek at some of the curriculum we will be starting with this year...
Math: We will start the year by building on some place value and number sense skills students have already learned. Soon we will be jumping right in to highlight of 3rd grade math...multiplication! We'll start off by building an understanding of what it means to multiply and divide. by the end of the year, students are expected to know all of the multiplication facts through 9 (but we might as well throw in 10 and 11!) fluently. It's never to early to start working toward that goal!
Reading: We will begin by looking at different literary texts and thinking of strategies to help us better comprehend what we read. Make sure you ask your student what they do while they read to help them understand!
Writing: We will begin the year by focusing on narrative writing and personal narratives in particular. We'll look at different ideas to help us become stronger writers.
Social Studies: We'll start off by talking about our government and what it means to be a responsible citizen of the United States.
Science: After a quick review of the STEM process, we'll begin a really fun and interesting unit on rocks and minerals.
