Now that we are pushing toward the end of the year, there is a lot going on in our school and classroom! Here are a few things you may want to know about...
* Field Day shirts are here! If your child (or you) would like to purchase a field day t-shirt, please send $10 with them to school. They can go to the gym and buy one from Mrs. Jackson. We are not pre-ordering them this year, so colors and sizes are on a first come, first served basis. Field day is scheduled for May 8th. You will be seeing more information about that as we get closer.
* Thursday, April 2 is my favorite school event of the year! That is the night of our "Me on the Map" cultural awareness night. This is an event we share with McCall Primary. This year we are hosting the event in our own gym. If you have never attended, I highly recommend it. This event has such a wonderful feel of community and cultural pride. I'll be there!
* Spring Break is April 6-10. I hope you enjoy some time to relax and play with your family!
* Spring Fling!!!! Our annual Spring Fling is May 1st this year. PTA and our staff are already in full gear planning a fabulous night of fun for you and your family! Don't forget, we need to put together baskets for the fund raising raffle. Please send in any donation you can to help with our 3 themes: Party Time, Basket of Balls or Gift Cards. Any, and I mean ANY, donation is appreciated! Anything you can think of that would go with those themes is welcomed and appreciated. If you are not sure what to send, I will be glad to send some suggestions.
Here is what we are learning:
Math- We have been working on telling time! And I have to say....this class is doing great! Keep practicing at home until it is second nature. Soon we will be adding to and reviewing our addition and subtraction skills. Please make sure your child is working on memorizing their facts to make the longer work easier!
Writing- Mrs. Cole and I are going back and revisiting narrative writing. This time, students will have more freedom in what they write. We will also be focusing on adding in all the grammar we have learned so far this year, such as adding adjectives, adverbs and extending sentences to make our writing more interesting!
Reading- we are working on strategies to help us when we get stuck on a word we don't understand. When your child is reading at home, if they are stuck on a word, instead of telling them the meaning ask them to use one of their strategies. We have practiced reading on to find the meaning, making an inference, using the glossary or going to a buddy.
Social Studies- We are working on a fun standard right now! We have talked about goods and services earlier this year. Now we are talking about how they are allocated (distributed). This is a very interesting learning experience! Ask your child about it!
Thank you again for encouraging your child to do their best each day. Every day I see what a fabulous group this is!
