We have had a great fist week of 2nd grade together! We've been learning about what to expect from school each day, and what is expected from each other. They have all been working so hard. I'm sure my students have been going home as tired as I am each afternoon!
Open House has been changed to August 21st. We will begin with a Title I meeting at 5:00. There will be a PTA meeting at 6:00, followed by two sessions to visit classrooms and learn about daily schedules and expectations.
We have begun homework! Your child will be using their homework journal for the entire year. Each month they will be given a new calender with nightly assignments. Please take a moment to read over the homework expectations posted in the front of the journal. Encourage your student to take their time, do their best quality work and be proud of what they turn in each day. Also, in the next few days we will begin adding nightly reading to homework. Please record the book they read and how long in their agenda. Second graders are expected to read at least 15 minutes each night. Research has also shown that students this age greatly benefit from hearing a fluent reader read aloud. So keep up those bedtime stories!
I'm looking forward to a fabulous year getting to know your 2nd grader and you!
