Welcome to the 4th Grade!
I am so excited about being your child's teacher this year and cannot wait to get things underway. I look forward to this upcoming school year and the many things I have planned for us to enjoy.

It is my philosophy that ALL children are capable learners; therefore, I have high expectations for all children. It is my goal this year to reach each child at his/her own academic level. Through guidance and encouragement, I hope to reach each student's full potential. Communication is very important in the educational process. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I can be reached via email at melissa.gottschalk@cobbk12.org .

I feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to work with your children and look forward to learning as much from them as they will from me.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Gottschalk

Career Essays and Brochures Instructions

You will have the opportunity to research and present information on a career that interests you or one that you would like to know more about.

You are required to write an essay on the career of your choice and create a brochure to present.

The information that you will collect for your essay is as follows:

  1. Introduction (name the chosen career interest, identify the career cluster associated with the career, and list the reasons why you chose the career)
  2. Training and Education (the requirements for specific training or education needed to obtain a job in the chosen career interest)
  3. Work Environment (information such as indoor/outdoors, office or fieldwork, type of dress for work, individual or group work)
  4. Salary, Growth Opportunities, and Job Outlook (opportunities for advancement and need for this type of career in the next 10 years)
  5. Closing ( a reflection on the research information and a conclusion about whether you still have an interest in this career after learning more about it)
  6. References of the resources you used in the research process.

You will use the Career Notes page to list three careers that interest you. Then, you will choose one of those three careers to research and find out more about it.

Next, you will research your chosen career and take notes on the Target Career Notes page. There are five categories that you must research and include in your essay. They are listed on your notes page.

When your research is finished, you will write your five paragraph essay.

RESEARCH:
Go to the website www.GAcollege411.org and select Career Planning.

Under this tab, select Explore Careers to see a list of careers. Then type in the name of a career that you would like to know more about. As you browse through the career information, take notes on important information you may need for completing your essay.

Market Day is Coming!
In addition to our study of economics, 5th grade will participate in Market Day this year. Market Day will be March 20th. This will serve as a long term project for Social Studies. A Market Day information packet was sent home today. Please, make sure you read over the information.

A few details about Market Day includes:
1. Each student must create a business plan, including a good or service to sell on Market Day, and have it approved by the teacher.
2. After the business plan is approved by the teacher, it must be approved by parent (s).
3. Goods or services DO NOT have to cost the family money.
4. Students may work independently or in groups of two.
5. Students will create a business name and logo.
6. Students will earn money in class for jobs, excellent behavior, and good work habits.

I look forward to seeing all the creativity the students put into their business. The Market Day process is a great way to help the students learn about what is involved with being an entrepreneur and opening his/her own business. I look forward to this exciting day!
