What have we been learning?

We are settling into our schedule, and we are beginning to learn a lot!  Here is what we are learning this week:

Reading-We are setting up our reader's workshop routines.  We have been building our independent reading stamina, learning about how to choose appropriate books, and Mrs. Mann and I have started our beginning of the year reading assessments called DRAs. These DRAs will help us to build our guided reading groups! 

Writing-We have been setting up our writer's workshop routines.  The students created heart maps with important things to them that they could write about. Ask your child to share what they wrote on their heart!

Math-We have started to review the mental strategies for our basic addition facts.  The strategies that we have learned are: doubles, near doubles, and making a ten.  Please be aware that students are expected to know their basic addition facts from memory by the end of 2nd grade!  Please help them practice these strategies at home!!
