Welcome to Friday the 13th!! Our week was pretty good. We are talking a lot in class about being a good friend and only worrying about ourselves. Sometimes these kiddos are more like siblings than classmates! We have really missed Mrs. Gatewood this week. I can't wait until our new paraprofessional starts.
In math this week we finished up Saxon Math lessons for a bit. We will be focusing on showing progress for our GAA work. Third, fourth and fifth grades will all be talking about fractions in some way.
The third grade standard- MCC.3.NF.3 d. Compare two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or < .
The fourth grade standard- MCC.4.NF.2- Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators by creating common denominators or numerators or by comparing to a benchmark fraction such as ½. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with symbols > = < and justify the conclusion by using a visual fraction model.
The fifth grade standard- MGSE5.NF.1- Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions, including cases of unlike denominators (e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem).
That will keep us busy for a couple of weeks. In science we are discussing matter. Next week we will focus on the different states of matter.
Today we made BBQ Hot Air Balloon Sandwiches and they were a big hit. We sent home the recipe for you to try at home. Here are a few pictures from the week.
They did some creative building in Science Lab. I think these were called Zoobs.

This weeks cooking was so good.
