Math Practice at Home!

Our school has implemented a new math program that can be used at home.  It is highly engaging for the kids.  Your child is already familiar with the program because they have learned about it in Math Lab during specials.  Please encourage your child to get on and "play" First in Math every day!  The student's login is on a sticker on their class binder or agenda.  Go to www.firstinmath.com and get thinking.

Sept. 14

Well Fall is certainly in the air!  We are learning so much in second grade.  We are working on problem solving in math.  A new component to that is explaining your thinking.... where the student writes out the steps they did to solve the problem.  You will be seeing this in homework and I just want you to know that it is writing the STEPS that they did, so words like first, next and then, should help them get it all down.

With the cooler Fall mornings, but warmer afternoons, you might want to send a jacket with your child.  If they tend to leave it laying around, you might want write their name in it.  Our recess is right after lunch at 12:45.  Next week is Fall Break.  No school!  Enjoy your extra time with your child!

September 1, 2015

Wow!  I can not believe it is September!   We are settling down and getting into our routine.  It is nice to fit more learning into our day.  The class is still a little slow on transitions and lining up during the day, so that is currently our behavior focus.  Academic Alerts (progress reports) will be coming home before the fall break, so that will give you a small window of how your child is  doing.  Second grade is a lot of new information to learn and we move fairly quickly.

Overall all we are off to a great start!!!  I am enjoying getting to know all of your children and they seem to enjoy their new school.  It was fun to see some of you at the school cook out!  I look forward to seeing you at our different school activities.  Thank you for your help and support in our classroom.
