What a great field trip we had today! We went to the fire safety village in Marrietta and had mini safety lessons from real firemen! We got to practice how to climb out a window on a foldable ladder, looked for unsafe fire hazards in a family room, watched a video on the importance of wearing a bike helmet, practice how to stop-drop-and roll, and even got to make/listen to a real 911 call. Pretty powerful lessons! Due to the rain, we did not get to go outside and practice bike safety in the cute little safety town, so we got to rock out to a funny puppet show instead. The kids had a great time.
Next Friday night is the PTA Winter Wonderland dance. Since the dinner is catered, they would really appreciate if you would RSVP and purchase tickets in advance. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door. PTA is also asking if you are willing to volunteer for the Spring Fling. The date has not been set, this is just a request for those willing and able to help. That paper went home this week.
As we get further into winter and the chance of inclement weather increases, please let me know if your child's transportation has changed in the case of school closing early. Hopefully we will not have a repeat of last year's snowstorm.
This 9 weeks we will be hitting some more difficult skills. We will be learning about contractions and possessive nouns and the proper use of an apostrophe. We will also be learning about time and money. With common core, it is now expected that kids learn the basics of time and money at home. Your child needs to recognize each coin and know the value of it and be able to tell basic time to the hour and half hour. I will be sending home a letter about this next week.
Thanks again for trusting me with your child. They make me smile every day.
