I forgot to mention that I have a class project that I need polyester fiber fill for. If you are able to pick up a bag (they sell it at Wal Mart), I sure would appreciate the class donation.

I can not believe it's November already! As Ayla said, "October went so fast!". I hope everyone turned their clocks back. Next week is a busy week. We have our Creek Indian field trip on Monday. We will be doing several fun activities outside on our busport, so you want to send a jacket with your child. Tuesday is a student holiday due to the election. I hope you go out and vote! Thursday night is Science Night. It will be a fanstatic night to see the science fair projects, try some fun science activities and walk through the star lab.... which is really cool!
Homework will change to the new, more streamlined claendar this week. The expectations for assignments will be on the calendar and remember, the calendar is posted on the Homework Page on the left of this blog. In math we will be learning to use an organized template to solve word problems. Please bear with your child as they try to apply this to the word problem on their homework calendar. It will take lots of practice to get used to using this. Your child needs to keep reading each night, but you no longer need to sign their calendar. I can tell who reads at home! It helps if you ask your child questions about what they're reading.... ask questions before, during and after they read. Some students are still needing lots of reminders about using capital letters properly and and ending puntuation in their sentneces. When your child is writing at home have them check over their work to make sure that it is written correctly. Thank you so much!!!! Hope to see you all at Science Night.

I can not believe that it is already conference week and a quarter of our school year is gone. It has flown by. I am looking forward to seeing everyone during their student's conference and sharing all the great things they are doing. Look for a reminder in your child's agenda the day before your conference day to remind you of the time. I try to be very diligent about sticking to the allotted time.
I do want to note that grades are either a 1, 2, or 3. A 1 indicates that your child is not making expected progress in that area and it is a concern. A 2 indicates that your child is still learning that skill and is "getting it" some of the time, but making mistakes sometimes too. A 3 indicates that your child is independently and consistently doing their work. Needless to say, there's going to be a lot of 2's on these report cards. Please don't take that as a negative, but as an indication that your child is learning!!!!
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone!

We started our new school-wide reading this morning! It went really well! It will make our mornings a little bit busier, so please help your child be extra organized with their binder and any notes that need to be given to me. A field trip form and the conference time form were both sent home on Friday. Please look for them and return them ASAP. Thanks!
Beginning October 6, 2014 Acworth will launch a new reading innovative. School-wide, students will begin their day with 20 minutes of reading. Research shows that by adding additional time for independent reading students’ independent reading levels will increase. In order to increase, our reading time we are starting our additional reading time before the school bell rings at 7:50.
We need your support on Monday, October 6, at 7:30am to begin Waking-Up with Words. Parents remind your child that any students who arrive after 7:30 will not be marked tardy, but will be directed to the cafeteria to read and/or eat breakfast until the 7:50 bell rings. We look forward to the payoff of this additional time!
