Library Resources
Our media c
enter has a variety of useful and interesting print resources, such as the daily newspaper. We take "The Atlanta Journal Constitution" and "The Marietta Daily Journal," as well as "The Acworth Neighbor," which comes weekly. Here is Mr. Bouthilette checking the sports page after lunch while waiting for his students.
The media center has a reference section with many encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, and other books.

This section backs up against the rows of computers which divide the media center into two parts.
Students may check out a children's magazine for two weeks, just like books. The children's
magazines are displayed in
alphabetical order. The newest magazines are in red binders and may not be checked out.
The media center arranges books in several different sections. The easier to read fiction books are in the E section arranged alp
habetically by the
author's last name. The easier non-fiction books are in the E section with a number and are near the wall with the green dinosaurs.
Near the cir
culation desk is a special collection of books in Spanish. This collection includes easy fiction, fiction, and non-fiction books. There are paperback and hardback books on these shelves. Some of the books are only in Spanish, but others include the English translation on the same pages.
Ne
ar the E section are the prof
essional magazines and books for our teachers. Besides the print versions, the media center subscribes to the on-line versions of "Mailbox Primary," "Mailbox Intermediate," and "Mailbox Bookbag."
On the side of the room with the large windows are the higher reading level
non-fiction and fiction books. Most of the non-
fiction is arranged in numerical order against the walls, except for biography and collective biography. Biography is labelled with the letter B and the three letters of the person described, while collective biography has the numbers 920 on the spine with three letters for the author. Biography is on the back side of the magazine shelving. Fiction books are on shelves out near the sides of the room. Shelf labels help direct children to the sections they need to find.
Non-pr
int resources may be accessed on 15 computer workstations for students and teachers. Here is Mrs. McDill checking her email after lunch while waiting for her students. Destiny is the online library catalog that staff and students use to find books and audio-visual materials in our media center. Besides showing if items are available, Destiny gives online links to various subjects, rated by grade level, that are approved for students to use.
Read-along audio books are housed in plastic bags hung on racks on top of the
magazine shelving. Students may check out one bag at a time and keep it for two weeks, just like books. Most of the bags have a book and an audio cassette tape, but a few have a book with an audio CD. The media center loans small tape recorders as needed by students who are borrowing the audio books.
